Dean’s Student Intern & Graduate Assistant Requirements for Dr Benjamin Khoo

A Dean’s Student Intern is a paid experiential education position.  For Dean’s Student Interns, I typically require at least the 65 percentile in the GMAT or GRE and have at least a 3.60 GPA. If applicants do not have the GMAT or GRE score yet then they need to have at least a 3.75 GPA.

A Graduate Assistant is a paid position assisting the faculty in research & then publishing paper/s.  I typically require my Graduate Assistants to have scored at or above the 70 percentile in the GMAT or GRE and have at least a 3.75 GPA. If applicants do not have the GMAT or GRE score yet then they need to have at least a 3.85 GPA.

The applicant must be a student in my class or classes for at least 1 semester and NOT be in their final semester at NYIT.  I typically teach the MIS (and sometimes the QANT) and MGMT755 Security Risk Analysis courses. This is so that I get to know who I am working with and also so that students have an idea of what to expect from me or what I expect. My expectations are high. This is very important.

Students MUST be able to work out a schedule and be prepared to deliver the outcome/s by the DEADLINE.  Perform your tasks as a professional (you are required to work the assigned tasks into your existing semester schedule).  A commitment and dedication to completing the assigned tasks in a timely manner. Meet once every 1 or 2 weeks and if necessary, more often when deadlines are close. Finally, write a reflection report at the end of the semester.

If an applicant meets these criteria, I would highly recommend an applicant to write a short description of what they propose to work on; based on the areas of interests I listed below. It is important that applicants be specific about this write-up and provides at least an example to illustrate. This is so that I have an idea of what you have in mind and I will try to work with you on that or propose an alternate path.

My current areas of research interests are in RFID, supply chain, information security and issues in cloud computing.

Finally, if the applicant is shortlisted, there will be a face-to-face talk or chat.  The applicant will need to bring all original and official certificates and documents like transcripts, diplomas, etc

ALL the requirements above are necessary. I hope this information is helpful to you.
